Amesbury Bantam Select Honours the Broncos
The Amesbury Avalanche Bantam team shows their support for the Humboldt Broncos. Before the first game of the finals, each player wrote a tribute to the Humboldt Broncos on their stick blades. In addition, each helmet featured a Broncos sticker and before each period they chanted “1 2 3 Broncos”. This is their way of showing their support and that all hockey families stick together.

NYHL Programming Confirmed for 2018/2019 Season
Club Presidents, Contacts, Coaches and Parents,
In response to the many questions being asked and rumours that are circulating, I’m pleased to confirm that the NYHL will be offering programming in the Tyke, Minor Novice and Novice divisions for the 2018/2019 season.
Working together with the Member Clubs, we will provide the best possible program for the kids and parents who rely on us to do so. We will not shut the door on the thousands of young players who are counting on us.
Paul Maich, Chief Operating Officer
North York Hockey League

Pro Action Hockey League is a Success!
Sunday, April 2nd, Mr. Paul Maich was pleased to attend the Pro Action Hockey League Minor Atom and Minor Novice Championship games at Victoria Village Arena and presented Constable David Besco, of 54 Division with a donation of $1080 in support of the League.
The Pro-Action Hockey League is a House League consisting of 2 age groups comprised of 4 teams in each. The League is governed by a neighbouring House League and all Coaches are Police Officers from 54 Division.
Not only does this invaluable program provide opportunity of participation to those that otherwise would not have the chance to play but also promotes dialogue between the players, their families and local Police Officers.
All participants reside within designated “At Risk” areas and both League fees and Equipment are supplied at no cost.

NYHL Adds Two New Life Members
The NYHL is extremely proud to announce that the Board of Directors has recently added Dave Armstrong and Paul Maich to their prestigious list of “Life Members.”
Dave Armstrong started in 1991 coaching his two boys. He had an “old school” style behind the bench, which usually generated tough and hard working teams.
In 2002 Dave switched roles and joined the NYHL’s Board of Directors. He currently acts as the liaison between the league and the Referee Development Committee. In addition, he also serves as the timekeeper supervisor for the NYHL, and if your team is ever playing at Fenside arena, Dave will be there to greet you and stamp your hand as you come through the door.
Dave is one of the rare breed of individuals who is always willing to lend a hand wherever it is needed and he always has the league’s best interests at heart. There are many nights when Dave is in an arena and acts as a league representative. He thoroughly loves the game of hockey and that is clearly evident whenever you get the opportunity to talk with him.
Paul Maich currently acts the Chief Operating Office and 1st Vice President of the NYHL. He also served as a long time referee within the league before stepping down to focus on his current positions.
Paul has been an integral part of the rejuvenation of the NYHL and largely responsible for its rapid growth and success. It was ten years ago that he was asked to do a business assessment which was expected to be a three-month project at the time. That assessment quickly turned into a “full time” position overseeing the daily operations of the league. During his tenure the league has seen substantial growth, growing from a mere 267 teams to the current 435 teams. Paul’s tireless work ethic, dedication and genuine love for not only the game but the NYHL, is clearly evident in the time he spends working on League projects. He is often in the office early in the morning and stays late into the night.
Congratulations to both Dave and Paul on receiving this prestigious award! It truly is well deserved.

Tournament win and Community Service
The Ted Reeve Tornado Peewee team won the Don Montgomery Memorial Tournament. But even more amazingly, in response to a warm clothing drive they did for people in need, they came up with almost a full car load of warm jackets, gloves, hats, boots and blankets all to donate to families who are in need of these items. In light of the extremely cold temperatures we are having, this provided immediate relief through the organization City Street Outreach who delivered the clothing right away.
Congratulations to all the players and coaches! Thank you for your kind and generous gesture to give back to those in need.

West Mall Minor Midget Select Wins B Division at Faustina Tournament
Dramatic Shootout Victory in Gold Medal Game
Etobicoke, ON, December 30, 2017: The West Mall Lightning Select team went undefeated in the Minor Midget B Division at the Carl Gordaneer (Faustina) Memorial Christmas Tournament held at the MasterCard Centre. The team completed their successful tournament with a 2-1 win over the Vaughan Black Select in the gold medal game. Vaughan Black scored early in the first period with West Mall tying the game early in the third period. Despite out shooting Vaughan Black, West Mall needed to survive a breakaway in the last 15 seconds of regulation time and kill off a penalty in overtime before ultimately scoring in the 4th round of the shootout to record the win.

Thank you, Thornhill Community Hockey League!
Your generous donation will go a long way in helping the people we serve in Haiti. This past November the TCHL donated toques and jerseys to the charity “Respect Haiti” to distribute to the community of Cerca-Cavajal. This gift was given to these children pictured and it was a complete surprise! Many of them could not stop smiling and some did not want to put the shirts on thinking they would get dirty or ruined.
Many asked why they would need toques and hockey jerseys? Surprisingly the mornings get pretty chilly especially when you accustomed to hot weather and the toques keep them warm. The jerseys are made of durable material so the clothing will last a lot longer and be used for a multitude of tasks.
For more information, questions or if you’d like to get involved please contact John Cho at john@tchl.org

McKenney Goalie Equipment Contest Winner
Congratulations to Faustina Fury’s Trent Fish on being this season’s winner for our McKenney Goalie Equipment Contest. Trent enjoyed this unique experience to customize his own goalie equipment, and he can’t wait to make some big saves in style this upcoming season!
Trent’s father was kind enough to share what the experience was like for Trent:
Trent has been playing goalie for two years with the Faustina Fury select team. His journey started when his team was looking for a goalie. He quickly raised his hand and offered to play in net. Trent hasn’t looked back since. He had spent countless hours checking out all the cool goalie gear in stores so when he found out he won the NYHL contest he was ecstatic. McKenney was great to work with. They brought Trent in for a fitting and showed him the different styles of pads. As a hockey dad that never played goal they provided me with a lot of great insight into goaltending equipment and how it is made. Designing the pads was a really cool experience. You are able to use the McKenney website to pick the style of pads and then select the colours you want. It even allows you to pick the colour of the straps! Trent had a lot of fun designing his pads and created a few different versions before finalizing his choice. When we went to pick up the pads they looked even better than they did online. It was an experience that Trent will never forget and certainly made our household a lifelong supporter of McKenney!
