NYHL Winter Season Resumes

Updated as of January 27

The North York Hockey League is happy to announce the resumption of the Winter Season which will commence on February 4th.  It is the NYHL’s full intention to complete the Winter Season and are actively striving towards reaching this goal for our participating teams. Teams are free to use their practice ice starting January 31, provided they are doing so within the current restrictions in respect to the local Public Health unit and Government of Ontario regulations.

All current safety protocols will remain in effect upon resumption of play. The league will update its protocols in accordance with the protocols and safety measures outlined by our governing body in the Game Plan 2.0.

Facilities are expected to reopen with 50 per cent capacity in both the building and spectator areas.  There will be limits in dressing rooms that do not allow for social distancing. We strongly advise players to come to the arena dressed in their equipment in order to avoid congestion in the dressing room.  If a player is not feeling well, please do not come to the arena.

The league is very pleased to bring select hockey back into our membership’s lives. We can’t thank them enough for their patience and cooperation throughout this difficult process.

See you at the rink!

January 4

This week the Government of Ontario announced new temporary restrictions as the province moves to a modified Stage Two of the Roadmap to Reopen.

This will effect the NYHL Winter season as the restrictions include the pause of indoor sports which are not permitted for a period of at least 21 days beginning on January 5, 2022 at 12:01am. These dates are subject to change based on trends in public health and other health system indicators. As a result, NYHL teams and players cannot participate in any indoor activities. Indoor sports facilities, as with the pause of indoor sports, are closed up to and including at least January 26.

The NYHL has every intention on continuing and completing the Winter Season as soon as restrictions are relaxed or lifted. Despite all of the difficulties and challenges brought about by the pandemic, we appreciate the continued support and understanding from our membership and look forward to hockey’s return.

During this time, the NYHL office will be working remotely.

December 31

For the time being, the League’s tentative return date for all NYHL hockey activities will be January 2. Future updates will be made here and on social media. We hope that everyone stays safe and has a happy holidays.
