U18 Victoria Village Are Tournament Champs!

The Victoria Village U18 team was started from scratch in 2016 after a second straight cohort had moved on to the GTHL. That initial season in 2016/17 saw the team win a total of 0 games.

The team persevered each year and continuously improved their game to the point where they finally became contenders during the 2020/21 season.

All of the hard work and dedication would finally be rewarded this past weekend. In their last year of minor hockey, the Victoria Village U18’s won the Bradford Blue and Gold tournament! They were able to achieve this despite missing their leading scorer to illness in the knockout rounds and another key player due to travel issues. The team dug deep and battled hard to win the final two games 1-0 and 2-0, respectively.

Head Coach Pat McLean said “I have been coaching since 1984 when I was a 16 year old back in Sudbury. I was actually younger than these players!  I have coached for nearly forty years and I have had a lot of success but I have never been prouder of a team than this one. This group of young men and women are the closest knit team that I have ever coached and the most resilient. It was an emotional day on Sunday, I wanted this for them more than anything and they came through for each other. I hope that they never forget this weekend!”

Congratulations on such an exciting achievement! This is what minor hockey is all about.
