30 Mar Tournament Triumphs – Victoria Village U13
The season started with a brand new team of players where, for many, it was their first experience playing Select hockey. Under the leadership of the dynamic duo Coaches David and Huw Williams, the Victoria Village U13 Orange team was born.
The players left everything on the ice in each game and built upon the lessons learned each time. Despite noticeable growth, they were still looking for their first win together.
The team went to their very first out of town hockey tournament, the Gene Harrington Falls Classic, over the February 24th weekend in Buffalo. This is where the players, families and coaches showed their true colours – hard work, team spirit and their love for hockey.
The team started the tournament with a tie and then went on to win their very first game of the year! The players could have packed up and went home happy. But ahead was a familiar face from the North York Hockey League, the Leaside Flames. Leaside was always a tough competitor. The game resulted in a loss for Victoria Village but that did not discourage the kids. The players shook it off and decided to reset. The two teams would find themselves facing off again in the finals.
Even though nerves and excitement were building, there was nothing to lose. The Victoria Village players showed up, and from beginning to end, they played with heart and determination. It would all pay off as they secured a hard fought 3-1 victory! The cheers could have blown off the roof. Congratulations Victoria Village!
