Get a Head Start on The Fall Season

The 2024-2025 hockey season is right around the corner and we want to make sure that all of our hockey families are prepared for the fun!

Important Upcoming Dates

You can find a comprehensive list of Key Dates for the NYHL season here as well as on our Calendar. Here are a few upcoming dates to be aware of before the season begins:

The Fall Season begins on October 7, 2024.

Coaches and Managers Meetings:

The NYHL hosts two meetings across the city. The meeting is intended for the Head Coach for information regarding league rules and the Manager for electronic game sheet purposes. It is MANDATORY that there is representation by the Head Coach OR Manager at either meeting.

Meeting #1

September 19 – 7:00 PM – McGregor Park Community Centre

Meeting #2

October 1 – 7:00 PM – Westwood Arena

Tiering Form submission for the Fall Season deadline is September 18th. Fall Tiering Forms can be found and submitted through our Coaches Portal. The tiering forms help us separate teams based on their skill levels for the start of the season. This will be revisited and reshuffled prior to the Winter Season.

Accessing the Electronic Game Sheets (EGS) and Game Day Lineups

The NYHL has moved away from paper game sheets to an electronic game sheet system via Agilex Sport Trek. It is the Team Official’s responsibility to accurately set their lineup prior to each game. Team Officials will receive login credentials to access the system as soon as the league receives their Hockey Canada Rosters.

Please follow the NYHL Electronic Game Sheet (EGS) Manual to get started.

Understanding the League Schedule

The NYHL operates on a 3-week (minimum) rolling schedule which can be found on our Game Centre.

This is to accommodate the 5 week deadline to apply for tournament entry or exemption days which will impact the weekly schedule.

Each WEEK of the schedule begins on Monday and ends on Sunday.

Impacting Factors to the league schedule:

Blackout Days

Each team is offered two (2) weekly blackout days from the league schedule. The purpose of the blackout days are to accommodate club house leagues and practice nights. Teams will not be scheduled to play NYHL games on their blackout days. The most common blackout days are Friday and Saturday.

Arena and Ice Allocation

Below is a list of current arenas for the upcoming 2024-2025 season:

Tiering

The NYHL operates its standings based upon a tiering system to better match team skill level and to improve the quality of competition. Teams will only play against other NYHL teams within their tier. The NYHL Tiering Committee will decide the make-up of each tier based upon season standings, tiering forms and feedback submitted by the teams. Tiers can vary from 3 teams to as many as 10 teams.

The distribution of teams in your tier (your opponent), their chosen blackout dates, as well as your team’s chosen blackout dates, work to limit availability during the week, and therefore, limits the available arenas to schedule specific games. While the schedule is not always perfect, the NYHL recognizes these challenges and continues to strive toward making sure that the schedule is as fair and accommodating to our participating families as possible.

Select Club Contact

Every member club in the North York Hockey League has a Select Delegate or Club Contact who is your association’s expert on all things regarding select hockey. They will be your go-to rep for any questions, requests or inquiries. If the Club Contact finds it necessary, they will contact the NYHL office with your needs and concerns to be addressed appropriately. Parents and coaches should not be contacting the NYHL office directly and instead, must go through their Club Contact.

We’re eager and excited to get started on our 71st season of NYHL hockey and continue to improve and grow the game that we love. We can’t wait to drop the puck!
